While we recommend luggage with wheels in most cases for their convenience and improved mobility, there are some cases when these suitcases may be excessive.
When you are going on a short trip, it can be better to leave your luggage with wheels at home. If you need to bring a suit, then the garment bag might be able to fit a few extra items of clothing if your trip won't require much else. Likewise, a small duffel bag or cabin bag can be significantly lighter when you don't have to pack much, and it may more easily fit in your overhead compartment on the plane.
Even when getting luggage with wheels, if you are predominantly taking shorter trips, it might be better to avoid suitcases with an internal frame. Most luggage with wheels are sturdily built to ensure that your bag is durable and will keep your items safe. The downside of this is that your big will be heavier by default, making it more of an inconvenience to carry, despite the wheels point being to reduce that pain.
Instead, when doing short trips, finding a duffel bag with a handle and wheels can be your best option. These bags lack an internal frame ensuring a lighter weight, but also feature the wheels and handle to allow you to travel more easily.
These are all important details to keep in mind when deciding if luggage with wheels is right for you. In most cases, it can be good to have both styles of bags available so you can make your decisions on a trip by trip basis to use the bag that works best.
